About
About Us
We are a design-led social venture focused on skill-building in rural India. Using only sustainable materials, Ohrna creates handmade products of everyday use that are contemporary with a touch of tradition.
With a mission to up-skill and generate meaningful work for house-bound rural women in Maharashtra as well as to reduce the amount of plastic produced and consumed, we’re trying to build a brand that is both ethically and sustainably produced.
Some facts about us that make us unique from artisan focused businesses:
- We work with rural housewives, farmers or housemaids who never had an opportunity to learn a skill or a craft and also battle social barriers to step outside home. Some have never sewn in their lives.
- We essentially train and employ them to go from makers to artisans. For our quality requirements, this can take 2 years.
- Through skill-building workshops, time and patience, we train them for free, provide our materials and pay them to make from home, products that we design
