Discover the intricate storytelling of ancient India with this Handcrafted Palm Leaf Pattachitra. Masterfully etched by the artisans of Raghurajpur, Odisha, this scroll depicts the fascinating "Kandarpa Hasti" or "Navanari Kunjara" motif.
In this surreal and symbolic artwork, nine graceful women (Gopis or Apsaras) contort and intertwine to form the shape of a majestic elephant. Riding atop this composite beast is Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. This motif symbolizes the oneness of nature and divinity, often interpreted as a test of devotion or a playful illusion ("Maya") in Hindu mythology.
Rare "Composite Animal" Motif: Features the unique Navanari Kunjara design, where 9 female figures create an elephant's body, representing strength and artistic ingenuity.
Needle-Etched Craft: Created without pen or paint; the lines are incised into the leaf with a sharp iron stylus and rubbed with natural black ink (lampblack).
Spiritual Significance: Depicts Lord Ganesha controlling the elephant, symbolizing wisdom guiding the senses.
