Natural gold colour and rich texture combine to create the exquisite art of Tussar silk. Saris of the region are known for their wonderful motifs and designs. A silkworm breeds on trees, not a mulberry tree, which gives Tussar silk its name, which means 'wild' silk.
Eri silk (Khasi: Ryndia) is the product of the domesticated silkworm Samia ricini, found mainly in North East India and some part of China and Japan. It was imported to Thailand in 1974.
-
Technique: The base fabric is created using a Handloom Plain Weave, which provides a slightly uneven, rustic texture that is highly valued in wild silks.
-
Borders: The vertical side borders feature a simple geometric "X" or diamond pattern, typical of tribal handloom aesthetics.
-
Material: A combination of Tussar Silk and Eri Silk.
-
Tussar provides the distinct beige/cream "natural" gold color and a crisp drape.
-
Eri (often called "Ahimsa silk") adds a soft, wool-like warmth and exceptional durability to the garment.
-
-
Texture: The fabric has a matte finish with a rich, organic feel that becomes softer with every wear.
