Immerse your home in the sacred traditions of Odisha with this Handcrafted Palm Leaf Pattachitra. Known locally as Talapatra Chitra, this ancient art form predates paper and was originally used for manuscripts.
Masterfully etched by skilled Chitrakars of Raghurajpur, this piece depicts the holy trinity: Lord Jagannath (center), Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, surrounded by intricate floral borders and mythical motifs. The artwork is created not by painting, but by engraving dried palm leaves with a sharp iron stylus (Lekhani). The rich black lines are achieved by rubbing lamp soot (Kajal) into the grooves, while accents of red and green are added using natural mineral colors.
Sacred Motif: Features the revered Jagannath Temple deities, a symbol of universal love and brotherhood in Odia culture.
Natural Materials: Made entirely from eco-friendly materials—dried palm leaves, cotton threads, and organic pigments like lampblack and vermillion.
Foldable Structure: The palm strips are stitched together in a way that allows the scroll to be folded into a compact stack (often called Pothi style).
