Some sarees are worn. Some sarees are experienced. Our Handcrafted Madhubani Painting Tasar Silk Saree belongs firmly and gloriously to the second category. This is not merely a garment—it is a wearable canvas, a living testament to the centuries-old artistic traditions of India, and a masterpiece that deserves to be passed down through generations. Every inch of this extraordinary saree tells a story, and every time you drape it, you carry that story with you.

Crafted from the finest Tasar silk—also known as Kosa Tasar— sourced from the heartland of Jharkhand, this saree possesses the unmistakable qualities that have made Tasar silk one of India's most prized and sought-after fabrics. The natural, warm ivory-cream base of the silk carries a rich, earthy texture and a subtle, understated sheen that is distinctly different from the high gloss of other silks. It is this natural texture that makes Tasar silk the perfect canvas for Madhubani art—the slight grain of the fabric gives the hand-painted motifs an organic, authentic depth that simply cannot be replicated on any other material.

The body of this saree is covered in a breathtaking, full-body Madhubani hand painting—one of India's most celebrated and ancient folk art traditions, originating from the Mithila region. The dominant pattern features sweeping, rhythmic arch forms filled with intricate diamond and oval motifs in a vibrant riot of royal blue, vivid orange, deep pink, emerald green, and pristine white. Nested within each arch is a graceful bird figure—painted with characteristic Madhubani precision, complete with dotted detailing—creating a hypnotic, all-over pattern that is bold, joyful, and magnificently alive. The border is equally detailed, featuring layered geometric and figurative Madhubani bands in complementary colours. The pallu showcases traditional Madhubani figurative compositions depicting human figures, animals, and nature motifs in the classic style—a fitting grand finale to this spectacular work of art.

Every line, dot, and colour fill on this saree has been applied entirely by hand by skilled Madhubani artists of Jharkhand, using natural and azo-free colours that are gentle on the fabric and vibrant to the eye. No two sarees from this collection are identical—each is an original artwork, and that is precisely what makes owning one so special.

At 45 inches wide and 6.30 meters long, this saree drapes beautifully and offers generous coverage for all draping styles. It is perfectly suited for weddings, festive celebrations, cultural events, and any occasion that calls for something truly exceptional and culturally meaningful.

Care Instructions

  • Dry clean only—this is the safest and most recommended method for preserving the hand-painted Madhubani artwork and the natural Tasar silk

  • Do not machine wash or hand wash with water, as moisture and agitation can damage both the silk fibers and the hand-painted colours.

  • Do not wring, twist, or scrub the fabric under any circumstances

  • Store wrapped in a clean, dry muslin cloth—avoid storing in plastic bags as Tasar silk needs to breathe

  • Keep away from direct sunlight during storage to prevent fading of the natural colours.

  • Do not use strong chemical detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners at any point

  • Iron on low heat from the reverse side of the fabric only—never iron directly over the painted surface

  • Handle the painted sections with particular care and gentleness to preserve the integrity of the artwork over time

Wear the art. Honour the tradition. Celebrate the beauty of India.
