About the Craft
The Kullu valley has been producing distinctive handwoven shawls for centuries, and the tradition remains very much alive. Local weavers work on pit looms, carefully interlacing pure sheep wool to build up the fabric thread by thread. The geometric border patterns — bold diamond motifs in red, green, black and white set against a natural cream base — are a hallmark of Kullu weaving that no two looms produce in exactly the same way. The wool itself is sourced locally, retaining all its natural properties of warmth, breathability and softness.
