There is a reason black never goes out of style. It flatters every skin tone, suits every occasion and requires very little effort to look right. This handloom rayon silk saree in deep black, with its scattered gold zari buta work across the body and a bold magenta-pink jacquard pallu, takes all of that quiet authority and adds a flash of something unexpected. The result is a saree that works just as well at an office as it does at a festive evening gathering.
The Craft Behind the Weave
Andhra Pradesh has a rich handloom tradition, and the weavers here have long been skilled at producing fabrics that balance visual richness with wearable weight. This saree is woven using a jacquard loom. This mechanism allows the weaver to programme complex patterns into the fabric structure itself, creating the raised, intricate floral and paisley motifs you see on the pallu without the need for separate embroidery. The buta work on the black body, small, evenly spaced gold motifs scattered across the full length, is achieved through careful zari interlacing during the weaving process. The warp is a fine 18/20 denier silk thread, while the weft is rayon, giving the saree a silk-like drape and sheen at a more accessible weight.
What Makes It Special?
The contrast between the restrained black body and the vivid pink pallu is what gives this saree its personality. On its own, the black with gold buttas is elegant and professional. The moment the pallu falls open, the jacquard work makes its presence felt — richly patterned, warm in colour and genuinely beautiful up close. It is a saree with two moods, and both of them are good.
How to Care for Your Saree?
Dry clean only. Rayon silk is sensitive to water and should not be hand-washed or machine-washed. Store folded in a soft cloth, away from humidity and direct sunlight. The zari work will retain its sheen longer if the saree is stored properly and not left folded in the same position for extended periods.
Some sarees require thought — the right occasion, the right jewellery, the right moment. This one does not. Drape it, pin the pallu and walk out. It takes care of the rest.
