Olive and maroon is not a combination that shouts; it draws you in slowly, the way good craft always does. This Sambalpuri Single Ikat Cotton Saree carries that quality effortlessly. The deep olive green body, filled with woven temple and human figures, meets a rich maroon border and pallu that together make for a saree that is traditional at its core yet completely contemporary in how it wears.

About the Craft

Sambalpuri ikat weaving comes from the heartland of Odisha, and it is one of the few textile traditions in India where the design is built into the yarn itself before the loom is even warped. In single ikat, either the warp or the weft threads are tied and dyed in calculated sections, then carefully aligned on the loom so that the motifs emerge as the weaving progresses. The temple forms and small figures seen across this saree are characteristic of Odisha's cultural landscape, drawn from temple architecture and everyday life, translated into thread with remarkable precision.

Speciality

The narrative quality of the motifs sets this saree apart. Every figure and form woven into the fabric has a cultural reference point; it is not mere decoration but a quiet visual storytelling of Odisha's heritage.

How to Care?

Dry cleaning is strongly recommended. Do not wring or squeeze the fabric. Dry flat in the shade on a clean surface. Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture, insects and direct light.

This Sambalpuri Ikat saree in olive and maroon is the kind of piece that becomes more interesting the closer you look, and that, really, is the mark of true handloom craft.
