About the Craft
Tangail weaving has its roots in the Tangail district, and the tradition migrated to West Bengal with weavers who settled in the Nadia and Hooghly regions after Partition. What they brought with them was a weaving sensibility that valued fine cotton, clean geometry and understated pattern-making. Tangail sarees are known for their crisp texture and the small, rhythmic motifs woven into the body using extra-weft threads, a technique that requires steady hands and an eye for proportion. Each motif you see on this saree has been placed deliberately, shuttle by shuttle, on a handloom.
